Professor of Law Sarah Lamdan will discuss her new book, with MarketWatch Enterprise Reporter .
In the book, Lamdan compares publishers-turned-data analytics companies to informational cartels. She explains how the companies operate in multiple information markets, taking advantage of lax antitrust law enforcement, publisher-friendly copyright decisions, and a lack of data privacy laws and regulations. The legal status quo has helped just a few companies monopolize and data and informational assets across legal, scientific, financial, news and personal data markets.
Lamdan looks forward and to the past for legal solutions to ensure data privacy and information access as data analytics businesses flourish. She suggests a blend of digital copyright solutions to ensure information access to all, revived antitrust concepts to push back on cartel-like trends in information markets, and public media-like government support of our critical digital information resources.
