Jeremy Creelan, former Brennan Center deputy director, appointed to Cuomo administration
New York State Governor-Elect Jeremy Creelan, former deputy director of the Democracy Program at School of Law’s , as special counsel on public integrity and ethics issues on December 9.
While at the Brennan Center, Creelan prosecuted high-profile election law cases in the interest of protecting voters’ rights, including Lopez Torres v. New York State Board of Elections, a challenge to New York’s judicial election system. He also co-authored a that deemed New York State’s legislative process “broken.” The study’s analysis became the basis of reforms to state assembly and senate rules.
In 2005, Creelan co-taught an election law seminar with , Inez Milholland Professor of Civil Liberties and legal director of the Brennan Center. The following year, Creelan served on the public integrity committee of Cuomo’s transition team after Cuomo was elected New York State attorney general.
Mylan Denerstein, a former Law adjunct professor who taught the Prosecution Clinic—Southern District of New York, was appointed counsel to the governor.
