David Garland's book on death penalty wins PROSE Award

, Arthur T. Vanderbilt Professor of Law and a professor of sociology, has won the 2010 PROSE Award in the category of law and legal studies for . Garland’s book explores the reasons why capital punishment has persisted in the United States, even though most Western countries abolished it long ago.

The , sponsored by the Professional and Scholarly Publishing (PSP) Division of the Association of American Publishers (AAP), were presented at the PSP’s annual conference in Washington, D.C., on February 3. With more than 300 members, the AAP is the national trade association of the U.S. book publishing industry.
