Journal of Legislation and Public Policy hosts symposium on election administration
On April 1, the hosted a symposium titled “Helping America Vote: The Past, Present, and Future of Election Administration.” The symposium, held in partnership with the , focused on legislative reforms to improve the current system of elections—including voter registration, voting technology, ballot design, voter ID laws, and the selection of election officials.
The day-long symposium began with remarks from Michael Waldman '87, executive director of the Brennan Center, who spoke about the importance of voting issues. Three panels and a roundtable discussion followed. Panelists included Wendy Weiser, Larry Norden '96, and Justin Levitt of the Brennan Center; Trevor Potter of Caplin & Drysdale; Edward Foley and Steven Huefner from the Moritz College of Law at Ohio State University; Christopher Elmendorf of the U.C. Davis School of Law; New York State Assembly member Brian Kavanagh '98; Michael Pitts of Indiana University School of Law; Charles Stewart of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; Kristen Clarke of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund; and Marc Elias of Perkins Coie. The moderators were Charles Seligson Professor of Law and Professor of Politics ; Tanya Clay House of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law; and Jerry Goldfeder '67 of Stroock, Stroock & Lavan.
This fall, the journal plans to publish a special symposium issue, featuring articles from the panelists.
