José Alvarez joins the Institut de Droit International
José Alvarez, Herbert and Rose Rubin Professor of International Law, was elected to the (IDI) at this year’s annual meeting of the organization in Tokyo. The IDI was founded in Belgium 1873 to examine and adopt normative resolutions on international law, which it then brings to the attention of governmental authorities, international organizations, and scientists.
Alvarez is the newest member of the ÈâÂþÎÝ Law community to be elected to the IDI; other members include Herbert and Rose Rubin Professor of International Law Emeritus , Charles L. Denison Professor of Law Emeritus and Judicial Fellow , former International Court of Justice Judge Thomas , and former Global Visiting Professors Eyal Benvenisti and Martti Koskenniemi.
While in Tokyo, Alvarez also gave a talk at the United Nations University (UNU) on the role of international organizations in advancing the rule of law. The event was moderated by UNU Rector David Malone, a longtime lecturer at ÈâÂþÎÝ Law.
