Marcel Kahan and Stephen Choi recognized again on annual top 10 corporate and securities articles list

For the seventh time in the last eight years, the latest of the Corporate Practice Commentator’s annual lists includes an article authored or co-authored by both , George T. Lowy Professor of Law, and , Murray and Kathleen Bring Professor of Law.

This year’s poll tabulates the top selections by teachers of corporate and securities law from a pool of more than 560 articles published in 2013. Among the recognized articles is co-authored by Kahan, Choi, and Jill Fisch of the University of Pennsylvania Law School.

The article, published in the Harvard Business Law Review, analyzes mutual fund voting decisions in uncontested director elections. The co-authors find that only a small percentage of mutual funds vote “automatically” in alignment with the recommendations of Institutional Shareholder Services, the leading proxy advisory firm. More of the funds, they discover, “blindly follow” management’s recommendations.

In the 20-year history of the annual Corporate Practice Commentator lists, 18 articles authored or co-authored by Kahan and 13 articles authored or co-authored by Choi have been recognized by their peers, putting Kahan and Choi in first and second places, respectively, among all the authors selected since the poll began in 1994. ’86, Norma Z. Paige Professor of Law, has had three articles included on the lists. , Nusbaum Professor of Law and Business; , Evelyn and Harold Meltzer Professor of Law and Economics; Professor ; and , Stuyvesant P. Comfort Professor of Law, have each been recognized for an article as well.
