ÈâÂþÎÝ-Dedicated Fellowships


PILC Summer Funding

The PILC Summer Funding Program guarantees funding for all first- and second-year students who spend their summers in full-time public service positions. The Summer Funding Progam offers $5,750 for 1L students and $7,750 for 2Ls.

Administrative Requirements and Deadlines
  • October 10: Attend PILC's information session on 
  • December 1: Register in the 
  • January 16: File your current and next year's (can file as early as October 1)
  • January 16: Review the Financial Aid Tutorial by January 16
  • April 12: Secure your public interest internship, enter it into the  and ensure that it is confirmed electronically by your summer employer
  • August 18: Ensure that your summer employer confirms that you completed the internship 
  • September 15: Submit an based on your experiences

Employment Eligibility 

All 1L and 2L students are guaranteed funding if they comply with the administrative program requirements set out above and work in eligible public interest employment for a minimum of 35 hours/week for 8 weeks.

Internships with most employers outside of the private sector are eligible for PILC Summer Funding, including: 

  • Government employers, including all international judicial internships
  • Domestic judicial internships for 1Ls only
  • Domestic or international non-profit, non-governmental or inter-governmental organizations - in general nonprofits must be 501(c)(3) organizations 
  • ÈâÂþÎÝ Law-Affiliated Centers that do not separately pay their interns

Internships with any for-profit entities including private public interest law firms are not eligible for PILC Summer Funding.

Funding Amounts & Requirements
  • 1L students receive $5,750 and 2L students receive $7,750.
  • There is no cap on the amount of additional funding students may receive from their eligible employer or external summer fellowships (except with respect to an ÈâÂþÎÝ-affiliated Center).
  • All funding from outside sources must be reported online using the Additional Funding Form.
  • ÈâÂþÎÝ Law offers a summer rent discount to students living in Law School residences and working for public interest organizations, as judicial interns, or as research assistants for professors. Information about applying for this discount will be posted in the Docket in March.

Intern Reports

Every year, ÈâÂþÎÝ students who receive summer funding complete a comprehensive and candid assessment of their internship experience. These are invaluable to students researching organizations where they may want to apply and in making decisions on job offers.

PILC Summer Funding FAQs


ÈâÂþÎÝ-Dedicated Fellowships

ÈâÂþÎÝ offers a number of special summer and term-time fellowships, both domestic and international, exclusively to ÈâÂþÎÝ Law students.

Summer Opportunities

These programs offer opportunities to focus on particular areas of law, including family law, immigrant rights, women's rights, international human rights, environmental law & prosecution. Many of these programs also provide a supplement to the regular summer funding award.

NOTE: For the international ÈâÂþÎÝ-dedicated internships PILC funding is only available at participating institutions through these programs

Term-Time Opportunities

In addition to special summer fellowships, there are a small number of paid term-time internships offered exclusively to ÈâÂþÎÝ Law students.


External Internship Funding

ÈâÂþÎÝ Law students are permitted and encouraged to seek external internship funding, in addition to PILC Summer Funding.
