The October 2023 election defeat of the autocratically-inclined Law and Justice Party created an opportunity to restore the rule of law and strengthen democratic institutions. Important work remains to ensure accountability for rights violations.

The Lab is working with a leading Polish NGO on litigation before the European Court of Human Rights relating to the previous Polish government’s surveillance, using Pegasus software, of opposition politicians during an election campaign, as well as its undermining of media pluralism during the 2023 parliamentary elections.
